Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Who is the greatest in the kingdom of God?

Answer: In this world, the greatest people are those who are rich, powerful, and intelligent. However, the greatest in the kingdom of God is someone who is humble and put others before him or herself. Jesus said that anyone who humbles himself like a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:4). Jesus also said that the greatest is someone who serves others (Matthew 23:11; Luke 22:26-27). If we aim to be the greatest in the kingdom of God, we should follow Jesus' example of humility and servanthood. Even though Jesus was a teacher to the disciples, He served His disciples by washing their feet (John 13:14-16) Even though He is the Son of God, He humbled Himself to be crucified for humankind (Mark 10:45; Philippians 2:8). If Jesus is our Servant King, how more should we, His servants, serve Him and one another (John 13:15-17).

Key Bible verses:
Proverbs 3:34; Matthew 5:5, 23:12; John 13:5; James 4:10

Prayer of children:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Servant King. Please forgive me when I have been proud and arrogant. Please give me a heart which is humble and meek like Yours (Matthew 11:29; 2 Corinthians 10:1). Amen.

Prayer of parents or educators:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for humbling Yourself to die on the cross for my sins. Thank You for showing me how to be humble and serve other people. Please forgive me when I have been proud and arrogant. Please remind me daily to be humble and meek like You (Matthew 11:29; 2 Corinthians 10:1). Please help me to be an example of humility and servanthood to the children I love, care and teach. Amen.

Last words...
"Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:4)
