| PAST ISSUE # 111 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: What is stewardship? Answer: Stewardship is managing the finances or property of another person, and a steward is the person who does it (Genesis 39:4-5; 43:16). We are all like God's stewards because the things we have do not actually belong to us but to God. Our wealth, health, talents, time, and even our lives are given to us by God the Creator of all (1 Chronicles 29:11-12, 14). Stewardship usually falls into three categories - time, talents, and possessions. First, we are stewards of our time, thus we need to manage our time well with God, family, work, study, friends, etc. Spending time with God through prayer and reading His Word (Holy Bible) should be our highest priority (Matthew 6:33; Mark 1:35; Luke 21:38). Second, we are stewards of the talents God has given us (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Peter 4:10). If God has given us the talents to draw, act, cook, write, do housekeeping, care for children, teach, play golf, etc; we should use these talents to bless others. For example, a person who is good in drawing can teach others to draw or help to design the church poster and so on. Third, we are stewards of our possessions. We must remember that God is the Creator and Owner of all things and He has entrusted us to take care of His creation (Genesis 2:15). The money our parents earn actually belongs to God because He has given them the talents and ability to earn the money. Therefore, we should use the money wisely and give generously to bless the Church or the needy (2 Corinthians 9:6-12). Furthermore, we, Christians, are also considered stewards of the Gospel. God has given us the Gospel when we believed in Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:25; 1 Timothy 1:11, 6:20; 2 Timothy 1:14). Like our talents or money, the Gospel is wasted if it is hidden or unused. Therefore, we should freely share the Gospel so that many people will hear it. Related topic in Issue # 38. Key Bible verses: Matthew 24:45-51, 25:14-30; Luke 19:13-27; 1 Corinthians 4:2, 6:20; 1 Peter 4:4-5 Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me time, talents and possessions. Please help me to be a good steward of these things so that You will one day say to me, "Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21) Lord Jesus, please give me a generous and compassionate heart so that I can be a blessing to the Church and needy. Please give me a willing and obedient heart so that I can share the Gospel to the people around me. Amen. Last words... "So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God."
