Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Should we pray for the dead to go to heaven?

Answer: No, the dead cannot be saved through the prayers of the living. The Bible says that after death, the dead face judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The Bible also says that there is a barrier which prevents people from hell to cross to heaven and vice versa (Luke 16:26). In addition, if we can pray for the dead to go to heaven, it means that Jesus' death on the cross is not sufficient for us to go to heaven. But the Bible clearly states that Jesus' death is the one perfect sacrifice for all of us to be saved (Hebrews 9:26, 10:10; 1 John 2:2). When a born again Christian passes away, we can be certain that he/she will be with God in heaven (John 6:37; Romans 8:38-39). Therefore, it is unnecessary for us to pray for the dead to go to heaven. God has given all the chances for us to repent and invite Jesus as our Saviour and Lord while we are still ALIVE on earth (2 Peter 3:9). After death, there is NO more chance for us to repent and be saved. Related topic in Issue # 67, 68 & 95.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You that I can be secure of my salvation in You. Please use me to tell others that You had died on the cross for the sins of everyone. Amen.
