Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Did the Bible mention dinosaurs?

Answer: Yes, God in Job 40:15-24 spoke of a dinosaur-like animal, called the "behemoth." The behemoth in the Hebrew language means, "colossal beast." The Bible described the behemoth as a very strong animal with a muscular belly (Job 40:16). His tail was long, thick and powerful, and liken to a cedar, a type of big tree (Job 40:17). He also had strong thighs, limbs and bones (Job 40:17-18). We also know that the behemoth liked to stay in the water (Job 40:21-23) and eat grass like an ox from the hills (Job 40:15, 20). We know that the behemoth was very big animal because he was secure and unafraid of the raging Jordan river (Job 40:23). Can you think of any modern animal which fits the description of a behemoth? A hippopotamus or a crocodile? A hippopotamus does not have a long, thick swaying cedar-like tail (Job 40:17). A crocodile does not eat grass like an ox (Job 40:15). Therefore, the behemoth is most likely a very large herbivorous, aquatic-dwelling dinosaur.

Key Bible verses:
Genesis 1:24-25

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for creating the behemoth and showing it to me in the Bible. Please help me to always put my faith in You and Your Word. I know that Your Word is trustworthy. In Jesus' most precious Name, I pray. Amen.

Last words...
"He (behemoth) ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword." (Job 40:19)
