Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: If Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, why do people still go to hell?

Answer: Redemption is when Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, and we must respond to this fact by receiving Jesus' redemptive work on the cross as a gift of God for our salvation (John 5:24; Ephesians 2:8). John 3:16 says:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This verse teaches us that God sent His Son, Jesus to redeem us from our sins, and we receive eternal life when we believe or put our trust in Him. For example, you are in prison and about to be executed. An hour before your execution, the prison warden informed you that you will be released if you believe that someone has died for you. We, sinners (condemned to death), have been told that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. However, we can only escape death if we believe that Jesus died for us. Therefore, we must choose to receive Jesus' redemptive work on the cross so that there can be forgiveness of our sins (Colossians 1:14). The Bible also says that the unbelieving or those who reject God's gift of salvation will not go to heaven (John 12:48; Revelation 21:8). Related topic in Issue #19 & 39.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus who is the Redeemer of the world. Please use me to tell people about Jesus so that they will choose to believe in Him and receive eternal life. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.
