Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: Are women important to God?

Answer: Yes, women are very important to God and play important roles in God's plans. The following are notable women in the Bible:

  • Sarah the wife of Abraham - she became the mother of nations (Genesis 17:15-16).
  • Deborah the Judge - she led the nation of Israel (Judges 4:4).
  • Queen Esther - she was instrumental in saving the exiled Jews from being killed during the reign of the Persians (Esther 8:3-6).
  • Rahab the prostitute - she saved the spies from being captured in Jericoh and became one of the ancestors of Jesus (Joshua 2:1; Matthew 1:5; Hebrews 11:31).
  • Hannah the mother - she dedicated her firstborn, Samuel to God (1 Samuel 1:24-28).
  • Ruth the Moabite woman - even though she was a Gentile, she chose to serve the God of Israel and became one of the ancestors of Jesus (Ruth 1:16; Matthew 1:5). The book of Ruth is written about her.
  • Anna the prophetess - she was probably the first person to tell the Jews about Jesus (Luke 2:36-38).
  • Phoebe the church worker - she was a great help to the church in Cenchrea and the Apostle Paul (Romans 16:1-2).
  • The Samarintan woman at the well - she believed in Jesus and told the people in her town about Him (John 4:39-42).
  • Mary Magdalene - she was one of the women who was with Jesus when He died on the cross (John 19:25). She was also the first to see the resurrected Jesus (John 20:11-18).
  • Mary the mother of Jesus - she obeyed God's calling and gave birth to Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, and cared for Him as He grew up on earth (Luke 1:26-38)
