Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: How do I know God's will for me?

Answer: Many Christians have to make a life-changing decision at least once in their lifetime. For example - "whom should I marry, which school should go, should I quit my job and move to Africa to become a missionary," and many others. If we want to know God's will for us, we can pray and seek God's direction (1 Chronicles 16:11; John 16:24; Philippians 4:6). We can read God's Word (Bible) and apply biblical principles in the situation we are in. For example, we can read 2 Corinthians 6:14 if we want to know God's will about marrying a non-believer. We can also ask a mature Christian such as a pastor or close friend to give advice and pray for us (2 Chronicles 18:6; Proverbs 19:20; James 5:16). However, if we may have prayed unceasingly, read the Bible cover to cover and asked all the mature Christians in church, and yet are still clueless about God's will for our lives. Here's a simple advice - JUST DO IT as long it does contradicts God's Word. Exercise your faith in God and take a step of faith into the "unknown." Sometimes, we first have to take the first step before God will show us the second step. To use an example in my life,  I thought it would be good for me to become a school teacher, so I took the first step and applied for the teaching job. However, God showed me the second step by closing that door and giving me an opportunity to work in my church. Isn't God wonderful? His will and timing is always perfect. Are you now at a critical juncture of your life? Let us seek God for His will for your life. Related topic in Issue # 61, 75.

Key Bible verses:
Mark 3:35; Romans 1:10, 8:27, 12:2; 2 Corinthians 8:3-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:16-18; 1 Peter 2:15, 3:17, 4:19

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am uncertain about the future. Please show me Your will for my life. Please close the doors which You do not want me to enter and open the doors which lead me to Your perfect will for my life. Please send godly people to advise me of Your will. Please prompt my heart to know Your will as I read Your Word. Please give me the patience to wait for Your direction and the obedience to follow You wherever You will take me. I know that Your will for my life is always good and perfect. Thank You, Lord Jesus. I love You. Amen.
