Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: I have forgiven my enemies, now how do I love them as commanded by God in Matthew 5:44?

Answer: We love our enemies like how we want to be loved and treated. We bless them, pray for them and do acts of kindness for them (Matthew 5:39-41). But, you may complain, "it is so difficult to love our enemies!" Well, if it is difficult to love our enemies, imagine how difficult it was to die for them. Jesus showed the full extent of His love by suffering and dying for us who were once His enemies because we had sinned against God (Romans 5:8,10). Related topic in Issue # 29.

Key Bible verses:
Leviticus 19:18; Proverbs 25:21-22; Matthew 5:44-48; James 2:8; 1 Peter 4:8; 1 John 2:10, 4:21

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, teach me how to love my enemies. Teach me to see my enemies as You see them with love and compassion. I ask that you bless and protect my enemies. I ask that you will help to reconcile the differences with my enemies as You have reconciled sinners with God through Your death on the cross. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for loving me and teaching me how to love my enemies as myself. Amen.
