Questions Kids Ask About God

Question: What does the Bible say about Christians marrying non-Christians?

Answer: The Bible says that Christians should not marry non-Christians because they will be unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14). A Christian who marries a non-Christian can be easily led astray by the non-Christian spouse. When a Christian is "yoked" with a non-Christian spouse, the Christian has a very high chance of compromising his faith to accommodate the values and beliefs of his spouse. This is because the values and beliefs of the non-Christian spouse often clash with the Christian's (James 4:4). In the Bible, we see the repercussions when believers disobeyed God's commandments and married non-believers. For example, King Solomon was led astray by his unbelieving wives (1 Kings 11:1-6). In the end, he died not completely devoted to God. Another example was King Ahab who married Jezebel, a non-believer (1 King 16:29-31). King Ahab was led astray by his wife that the whole nation of Israel fell into sin (1 King 21:25).

Key Bible verses:
Genesis 24:3; Exodus 34:16; Deuteronomy 7:3

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word because it is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105). With Your Word and Spirit as my guide, I know that I will live a good and righteous life. When I grow up, please send a godly person to be my spouse so that both of us can continue to love and obey You. Amen.

Last words...
"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." (Joshua 1:8)
