Question: What are the false theories which try to explain away the resurrection and how do we refute them?

Answer: There are many false theories which say that Jesus did not rise from the dead as He promised (Mark 9:31). One of the false theories says that Jesus did not die but merely fainted. This theory speculates that the disciples mistook Jesus as dead and buried Him in the tomb while He was still alive. And Jesus regained consciousness and appeared to the disciples. However, this theory can be refuted because the Roman soldiers, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus concluded that Jesus was dead on the cross (Mark 15:44-46; John 19:38-39). The second false theory states that Jesus' body was stolen (Matthew 28:13). This theory can also be refuted because the tomb was guarded by well-trained and disciplined Roman soldiers and it is unlikely for them to allow the theft to occur (Matthew 27:62-66). Another false theory states that the disciples who saw the risen Lord Jesus were hallucinating. This theory is also refutable because Jesus was seen by as many as 500 people (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). It is very unlikely that more than 500 people were hallucinating at the same period. The fourth false theory states that the disciples went to the wrong tomb. Once again, this theory can be refuted because the enemies of Jesus could have gone to the correct tomb and produced His body to destroy the testimonies of Jesus' disciples that Jesus is risen. In conclusion, our Saviour and Lord Jesus is truly risen and alive, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father (Luke 22:69).

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that you died, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and will come again to judge the living and the dead. Lord Jesus, I have love ones and friends who do not believe in You. Please touch them so that they will also believe in You as the one true and living God. Amen.

Last words...
