| PAST ISSUE # 91 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: How were people saved before Jesus died on the cross? Answer: Before Jesus died on the cross, the Jews were required to follow the Mosaic Law to please God. The Jews followed the Mosaic Law as a testament of their faith in God. If they did not have faith in God, they would not follow the Mosaic Law. For Gentiles (non-Jews who do not have the Mosaic Law), they may be able to please God if they did by nature things required by the Mosaic Law (Romans 2:14). For example, if their consciences require them to honour their parents, condemn murder and adultery and so on; they may have the possibility of being saved. However, Gentiles (and Jews too) will be condemned if they commit the sins listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Revelation 21:8. Today, Jews and Gentiles can be saved if they believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour (John 3:16; Galatians 2:16). Related topic in Issue # 39. Key Bible verses: Romans 2:13-16; Hebrews 11 Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God who came from heaven to become fully man and die on the cross for the sins of all humankind from Adam to me. I thank You that because of what You have done on the cross, I am set free from death and sin, and I am reconciled with God the Father. Lord Jesus, please help me to tell an unsaved friend about You so that my friend can be with You in heaven. Amen. Last words... "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6) Next |
