| PAST ISSUE # 94 Questions Kids Ask About God Question: How come Jesus tell us to hate our parents, spouse, children, and siblings in Luke 14:26? Answer: Jesus actually meant that we must put our love for Him first. After all, Jesus is God (John 3:10; Philippians 2:6), and we are commanded to love God with all our heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37). Therefore, loving God the Son (Jesus) is equivalent to loving God the Father. If we love our parents or spouse more than God, we have broken the greatest commandmentt stated in Deuteronomy 6:5 and Matthew 22:37-38. Do not misunderstand that Jesus is not telling us to hate our parents and love ones but we must love God first (Exodus 20:12; Matthew 5:3-7; Ephesians 5:33). Related topic in Issue # 20, 27. Key Bible verses: Luke 10:27; John 5:23, 8:42, 15:23 Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I love You. Thank You for loving me. Please help me to love others and as You love me. As I live my life day by day, I want to deepen my love and devotion to You. Please protect me from things which try to take away my first love for You. Amen. Last words... (Jesus is speaking) "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be My disciple."
