Question: What is God like?

Answer: We can know what God is like by having a relationship with Him through prayer and reading His Word (Holy Bible). In summary, God can be characterized by the following attributes:
God is holy - Leviticus 11:44-45, 20:26; Revelation 4:8
God is love - John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:16
God is jealous (God expects our complete devotion to Him. He is sad when we turn to other gods or idols.) - Exodus 20:3-5, 34:14; Joshua 24:19
God is everywhere - 1 King 8:27; Psalm 139:7-12; Jeremiah 23:24
God is powerful - Genesis 1:1; Jeremiah 32:17
God knows everything - Psalm 139:1-6, Hebrews 4:13
God is merciful - Lamentations 3:22-23; Micah 7:18; Luke 1:50; Ephesians 2:4
God is just - Psalm 7:11, 96:13; John 5:30; Romans 2:2

As Christians, we need to remember that God is God. To know everything about God is impossible because He is our Creator and we are His mere creation (Job 38:3-42:6; Isaiah 45:9). If we begin to say to ourselves that we know everything about God, we are in the danger of pride and idolatry (which is making God fit into an image that has been created by us). However, we can have a close, meaningful relationship with God through prayer and reading His Word. God sees the sincerity of our hearts when we desire to seek and know Him, and He will reveal much about Himself to us (Psalm 105:4; Jeremiah 29:13; John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 13:12).

Dear Lord Jesus, I want to know You more and more. Please be with me as I do my quiet time. Please speak to me through Your Holy Spirit and Word. Thank You, Lord Jesus. I love You. Amen.
